Dubai Shopping Festival ( DSF) is a one month festival that attracts a lot of international tourists along with the Emiratis and expatriots living there.
2015 was the 20th year of
the DSF running between January 1 and February 1.
Dubai Gold and
Jewellery Group in association with four
major jewellers in the city – Malabar
Gold and Diamonds, Siroya, Sky Jewellers
and Jewel One, decided to make
something great and unique in gold by which they will attempt
for a world record. They decided to make the longest 22 carat handmade gold chain of the world.
And they made it.

It was
manually linked by 100 craftsmen over 45 days for 10 hours each
day. The chain was measuring 5 KM and
weighing 240 KG and has over 4 million
links, The final five kilometer was assembled together by linking smaller reels
of chain weighing 4 kilos each.. It was named as Dubai Celebration Chain.

It had been displaying on a large stage at Deira Gold Souq. The display
itself was spread for 200 metres
and took six hours for the craftsmen to arrange it properly on the stage.

It was announced that
any person can be part of this unique project by booking a portion of the
chain, which will be delivered to them once the record is set. Customers will have
an option of having it as bracelets or as chains, ranging from seven to eight
grams (bracelets) and up to 26 grams for chains. The length of the chains could
vary between 22cm to 26cm.

The Guinness World Records team announced Dubai’s new record
by certifying the attempt of the handmade gold chain.
My husband and I
booked two bracelets and
two chains for ourselves .
