Coral Safari in Andaman , India

Manasi Chakrabarti ( Bandyopadhyay )

The beautiful 500 islands of Andaman and Nicobar  in Bay of Bengal  have  exclusively  fringing  reefs (fringing reef means a coral reef  which lies close to the shore) and barrier reefs (a coral reef close and running parallel to the shore but separated from it by a channel of deep water ) that help to  maintain   a healthy biodiversity in this area as well as protecting  the coastline from erosion.

Most of the islands are surrounded by fringing reefs on their eastern side and barrier reefs on  western side. The  reefs cover about two thousand sq.km. area, that is  six percent of the islands).

The  massive secretion of calcium carbonate  from coral  forms  an elaborately decorated small or  large colonies which in turn becomes a reef  This reef  is a dwelling place  of a vast marine life .

So, the  underwater world of Andaman passes her days with her  colourful corals , plants, rarest species of fish and other shallow water creatures.

If you are interested to see this another dream world, you must go for Coral Safari. A semi-submarine will take you into the sea and you will experience from the glass windows some unbelievable , mesmerizing scenery.

The trip begins from Andaman Water Sports Complex. it is a two hour trip and two trips are there in the morning.

If weather condition is good, you can enjoy this thrilling journey.

All the Best !!
