Antpur is a village in Hoogly district. This is the birthplace of Swami Premananda or Baburam Maharaj (Baburam Ghosh) - one of the direct deciples of Sri Ramkrishnadev.
We started for Antpur on a November morning 2016 from South Calcutta by car. The well maintained broad road made our journey comfortable. It took a little more than three hours to reach the residence of Baburam Maharaj.
This residence is the witness of many historical incidents. As photography is not allowed inside the house, I took this snap from outside the building. Here in the courtyard, on 24th December, 1886, Swami Vivekananda with other eight deciples of Ramkrishnadev took the vow for Sanyas - that is renouncing the world and of living the life of monks. This place is called Dhuni Mandap .
There are rooms in first floor where The Holy Mother Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda stayed for some days.
Sarada Devi - The Holy Mother - came to Antpur twice. On February 5,
1889 she came from Calcutta for the first time accompanied by '' Swamis Vivekananda, Saradananda,
Yogananda, Premananda, the Venerable Mahendra Nath Gupta – Master Mahasaya and
Sannyal Mahasay. After a week she went to Kamarpukur by bullock-cart via
Tarakeshwar. The second time she came from Belur during the Durga Puja in 1894
A.D.''
The building of the Ghosh family at present is locally known as “Mayer Bari” (Mother’s house). Sri Ramkrishna Dev's toothpicks, socks and the chappals were collected , placed and worshiped here .The pond ‘Jalahari’ situated behind this house said to be used by Sarada Devi.
Narendra Sarovar is another historical pond where Swamiji and other disciples used to take their bath while staying at Antpur. Swami Trigunatitananda , who hardly knew any swimming, was about to drown in this lake one day . Swami Niranjanananda rescued him.
Ramkrishna math and Mission has their office here, and if you reach before 11 o' clock, you may take coupon for Anna ( Rice) Prasada . The prasada is served in a room inside the house and as usual, everything is very neat and clean . As the believers know that eating rice is to pay offering to Lord Brahma who resides in the belly in the form of fire, a hymn is being chanted before eating like any other places of the Mission.
The calm surrounding, fresh air, green neighbourhood, deep blue cloudless sky added a perfect serenity to mind and body.
And you may come here on 24th December to celebrate the historical occasion.
